How we do Farm to Table
Our farm to table journey began in 2012 right after we were married. We had an Oliver 88 tractor, an Oliver hay rake, a Massey Ferguson square baler, and some laying hens. Homesteading never came to mind at all. We just wanted to grow our own food.
We purchased our current property just one year after wedding. There, we established sturdy fences, constructed a practical loafing shed, and acquired our first heifer, Elsie, specifically for breeding cattle. Now, a decade later, Elsie remains a cherished part of our herd, along with around twenty head of beef cattle, including exceptional Angus and Wagyu breeds.
We have always wanted to raise animals ethically and sustainably. Our animals lead happy, healthy lives, in open air and on fresh grass. We focus on pasture rotation to help build up the topsoil on our land. Casey’s mowing and baling of the hay feeds our animals. Wasted hay from the cows goes to the chickens in the winter so they have something to scratch through. This also helps prevent a muddy coop and muddy eggs.
Milk from the cows feeds calves, pigs, and our family, allowing us to make 100% of our own dairy products here on our farm. Whey is used to feed chickens, pigs, and as fertilizer in the garden. We recycle and reuse as much as we can to improve our farm. This has fueled and inspired by our desire to raise our own food.
We feel so fortunate to be able to have such a close relationship with nature and our animals.
